Chapter 3

Siara's Pov

I don't know what to do anymore.

Why are there so many problems in life? Why can't I just live peacefully for once without tension constantly hanging over my head?

"Ahhhh!" I groaned dramatically while throwing myself backward on the couch.

Coco, who was peacefully sleeping beside me, instantly woke up and stared at me like I had personally ruined her life.

"Sorry," I muttered while scratching behind her ears.

No, Siara. You cannot give up this easily. You have survived everything till now. You can survive this too. It's just one signature.

One stupid signature from one stupid billionaire man who unfortunately happens to be your biological father.

I mean... how hard could it be?

The problem is how exactly I was supposed to approach him.

I cannot just walk into his office and say—

'Oh hi, actually you don't know me but I know you. Surprise! You're my father. Anyway, I don't really want a father-daughter relationship or your money or your emotional support. I just need your signature on these emancipation papers so I can continue pretending you don't exist. Thank you so much.'

Yeah...

That definitely sounded completely normal and not mentally unstable at all.

"He'll probably call security before I even finish speaking," I muttered to myself.

Or worse.

What if he laughed?

What if he thought mom lied to trap him?

What if he refused to believe me?

What if he already had a perfect family and I just looked like some random problem ruining his peaceful billionaire life?

I suddenly felt sick.

"Why is my life turning into a badly written drama?" I whispered while holding my head.

Coco jumped into my lap and started purring softly.

"At least you love me," I sighed dramatically.

Coco blinked at me before immediately trying to bite my finger.

"Okay maybe love is a strong word."

After sitting in silence for a few minutes, I suddenly grabbed my laptop.

"Let me do some research first."

If I was going to meet the great Alexander King, then I at least needed a proper plan.

I typed his name into the search bar.

And immediately regretted it.

The internet was literally obsessed with this man.

Alexander King spotted leaving business conference.

Alexander King ranked among top youngest billionaires

Alexander King expands King Enterprises globally.

Alexander King attends charity gala.

Alexander King this. Alexander King that.

I rolled my eyes.

"Does this man ever rest?"

I clicked on one article after another.

Every single photo looked the same.

Perfect suit.

Cold expression.

Expensive watch.

Rich people aura.

Even through a screen he looked intimidating.

Unfortunately... he was also annoyingly handsome.

"Ugh. I hate genetics."

Coco meowed loudly beside me.

"Exactly."

I continued scrolling until one particular page caught my attention.

INTERNSHIP OPENING — KING ENTERPRISES.

My eyes widened.

"What if..."

A slow grin spread across my face.

If I got selected for the internship, I could enter the company building legally. After that... I could somehow find a way to meet him privately and get those papers signed.

I mean, it wasn't completely impossible.

Right?

"It is a dumb plan," my inner voice immediately said.

"Oh shut up," I argued out loud. "At least I HAVE a plan."

My inner voice stayed silent for a moment.

"...still dumb though."

Ignoring myself, I quickly opened the application form.

The internship was for HR assistance.

Did I know anything about HR?

No.

Was I still applying?

Absolutely yes.

I uploaded my resume proudly.

Which was mostly created by ChatGPT (my bro).

"My bro never disappoints," I whispered emotionally.

After filling out everything carefully, I finally clicked submit.

And then...

I waited.

For the next five hours, I checked my email every five minutes like a psychopath.

No response.

I checked again.

Still nothing.

Again.

Nothing.

"This is torture."

Around evening, my phone suddenly buzzed with an email notification.

I almost threw Coco off my lap while grabbing my phone.

"Oh my God."

This was it.

This was my moment.

I quickly opened the email with shining eyes.

And then my entire expression dropped.

Rejected.

Just like that.

"What the f—"

Apparently, I was:

underaged, unqualified, inexperienced,

and lacked the required educational background.

Wow.

What a confidence boost.

I dropped my phone onto the couch dramatically.

"I should've listened to my inner soul."

"I told you so," my brain replied proudly.

"Yeah yeah, whatever."

I buried my face into a pillow and screamed internally.

Now what?

I couldn't keep wasting time.

Melinda would come back soon with those papers, and I still had absolutely no idea how I was supposed to approach Alexander King without embarrassing myself to death.

Hours passed.

Then more hours.

At some point I stopped pretending to search for solutions and just stared blankly at the ceiling.

The apartment felt too quiet. Mom used to hate silence. She would always play music while cooking or randomly start talking about the weirdest things.

Now the only sound left was the ticking clock on the wall.

I slowly looked toward the small diary resting on the table beside mom's framed photo.

The diary containing his number. I had avoided touching it ever since mom died.

Because touching it somehow made everything feel real.

My fingers tightened slightly.

Coco jumped beside me again before curling into a tiny ball near my leg.

I stared at the diary for a long time.

One call.

Just one call.

And my life would probably never stay the same again.

I let out a tired sigh and checked the time.

3:07 AM.

Great.

I was having a life crisis at three in the morning.

Very normal behavior.

I rubbed my face tiredly before finally reaching toward the diary.

Because now...

There was only one option left.
